Mary Cardinal, 73, of Watertown
Mary M. (Cloherty) Cardinal of Watertown died Sunday, Feb. 25, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. She was 73.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Cardinal grew up in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1945. She moved to Watertown in 1953.
She had worked for the town of Watertown for many years retiring in 1995 as the assistant auditor.
She had been a member of the Restless Rustlers Club, a Watertown social club, past president of the former St. Theresa’s Sodality and also a past member of the St. Theresa’s Couples Club.
Wife of the late Russell W. Cardinal Sr., she leaves her daughter, Ann Marie Mastalerz of Derry, N.H.; her sons, Peter R. Cardinal of South Boston, Paul E.P. Cardinal of Nashua, N.H., Walter F. Cardinal of Hudson, N.H., John F. Cardinal of North Andover, Kevin P. Cardinal of Watertown, and Russell W. Cardinal Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Clasby) Cloherty, and the sister of the late Joseph Cloherty, Peter Cloherty, Sally DeCroteau and Ann W. Labadini.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 28, from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown, followed by a funeral Mass at the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown.
Burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
